Enjoy our history and traditions
The Costa Daurada offers you one of the best holiday destinations on the whole Mediterranean. Thousands of years of history have bequeathed it a rich heritage of festivals and traditions, most of which take place in the summer. You’re invited to join in and enjoy these celebrations and learn about our history at the same time.

CALÇOTADES
The traditional dish
A traditional dish of this area consisting of a variety of spring onions grilled directly over hot coals and dipped in a delicious special sauce. The “calçotada” is complemented with grilled meat and sausages

HOLY WEEK
A deeply-rooted legacy
Holy Week is a very important, deeply-rooted tradition for the people of the Costa Daurada. The floats of the religious brotherhoods in Tarragona are a particularly impressive sight.

ST GEORGE’S DAY
Cultural tradition
A traditional Catalan festival in which people exchange gifts of books and roses and all the towns and cities organise cultural events.

ST JOHN’S DAY
Summer festivals
On the night of 23 June, St John’s Eve (Sant Joan), the arrival of summer is celebrated with the lighting of bonfires. Music and dancing fill the night in the towns and villages of the Costa Daurada.
24 June
OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL
Seafaring tradition
Fishermen and seafarers pay homage to the patron saint of many of the towns on the Mediterranean coast by organising processions and making floral offerings to the image of Our Lady.

FIREWORKS IN TARRAGONA
A spectacle of light and colour
In summer Tarragona hosts the International Fireworks Competition, a pyrotechnic festival in which professionals from all over the world compete to offer the best spectacle of light and colour

Each spring the city of Tarragona organises "Tarraco Viva", a festival with a multitude of events recalling the Roman history of Tarragona.
